Patients and families come from all over the country to get specialized health care at Duke Medical Center. Not only are the patients absorbing their health care expenses, they have to worry about housing options while they are getting their medical treatment. This adds to their emotional and financial burden.
In a typical year, Duke Medical Center performs 350 solid organ transplants. For certain transplant surgeries (ex. lung transplants), patients are required to stay locally for 3 months after surgery for rehabilitation.
Some patients end up staying 6 months and beyond. This housing burden adds a tremendous amount of pressure and stress to families.
The Houses of Hope will be houses where the patients and their families can stay while they are getting their medical treatment at Duke Medical Center. The houses will be built within miles of Duke Medical Center, on property we own that connects to our church campus.
